Q. Why do I need to become a registered user?
A. Becoming a registered user means that your information is entered into our database and remembered for the next time you play. This new ID format makes it quick and easy for you to enter contests as it avoids your needing to enter the same data over and over again. Once you have registered, your data is saved and, from that point on, you will only need to type in your username and password when entering our contests.
Q. How long does this username and password exist for?
A. After six (6) months without use your username and password will expire and all your personal info will be deleted from our database. At this point, you will have to re-register with us again if you decide to enter another contest. Please remember: when your information expires there is a chance that someone may choose your old password, in which case, you won't be able to choose the same one again.
Q. How often can I enter each contest?
A. Entry guidelines change from contest to contest. Some contests do have restrictions upon how many times you can enter and collect points. These guidelines are clearly outlined in the Rules and Regulations of each contest. See the next FAQ answer.
Q. Where can I find the Rules and Regulations?
A. Individual contest Rules and Regulations are located within each contest. The Rules and Regulations are accessible from the start page of each contest via a link. Rules and Regulations are clearly marked and are always apparent.
Q. Why do the age requirements for each contest differ?
A. The age requirement changes for each contest because prizing and sponsorship changes for each contest. To be sure about specific age requirements, read the Rules and Regulations for each contest you enter. But just so you know, the minimum age for all of our contests is 13.
Q. I don't feel comfortable entering my exact birthday - can I just enter the month and year?
A. Unfortunately no. We need your entire birthday, day, month and year to ensure that you meet the age requirement to enter and win our contests. Simply giving us the month and/or year does not distinguish your age on a particular day of that month or year.
Q. What is the Contest Advisory?
A. The contest advisory explains why we have a long phone procedure to inform our winners that they've won. The process is a call/call back system that allows you to hear our CHUM Limited (which includes MuchMusic, MuchMoreMusic, Citytv, Bravo!, Space, Star! and the NewVI) headquarters answering service to know that the call is legitimate. Once we've proven that the call is real, the process of informing you of the details of your win begins.
Q. I'm a registered contestant - why do I need to read and agree to the disclaimer every time I enter a contest?
A. Essentially, it's a legal thing. The disclaimer is there for your benefit and protection. It is in your best interest to understand how these contests work, and how you will be contacted in the event that you win, therefore we display this information and request your agreement every time you enter a contest.
Q. How can I enter to win and make sure that my information remains private?
A. It’s simple! Unless you have checked-off a box on the entry form that allows us to share your information with the Contest Sponsor, the information you have provided to us is only used to run the contest. If you have checked-off a box for a contest and later change your mind, simply visit our Unsubscribe Area (http://contests.chumtv.com/unsubscribe.asp)
This area contains complete directions on how to access your contest profile to either privatize your information or remove yourself from our contest database completely.
Want to unsubscribe from a previous contest entry? Simply email us at members@chumtv.com and tell us the name of the contest you entered, who you are receiving promotional material from, along with your username. Please be sure to type HIDE AND NO SEEK in the subject line of your email.
Q. I live in Quebec, why can't I enter a CHUM Limited contest in Ontario?
A. When a contest is run in Quebec, it has to go through a separate body called the "Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries" before ANYTHING can be given away. This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on prize value. Anyone who runs a contest in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries 10% of the prize value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but also involves weeks of applications, justifications, and reports. Often, our sponsors can't wait 4-6 weeks to get approval from this body. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries quite honestly, presents too many loopholes.
But there's good news! Our sister station, MusiquePlus, has cool contests and stuff for all of you itchin' to get involved. Check out MusiquePlus's website for more info!
Q. I'm a registered user - why don't some contests recognize me?
A. Some of our contests, especially the ones that have been ongoing over the past year, have yet to be switched over to our new ID format. This change from the old format to the new ID format (the form which asks for a Username and Password) was designed to make entering contests quick and easy, and does not affect the contests themselves, only the way that we accumulate the necessary info. Should you run into this, simply continue to type in your info each time you enter a new contest.
Q. All right, I have read all of this and I still have a problem or a question about an online contest, what should I do now?
A. You should email your comments and questions to members@chumtv.com and we will do our best to fix the problem. If however, you have questions about on-air promotions, please email the following:
